Giovanni Reda


Biography
On February 6th 1974, in New York City, Giovanni Reda was born to Janet and Luigi Reda.
Through his years growing up in Mill Basin, Brooklyn, Reda could be seen every Sunday evening eating dinner surrounded by Italian family members at his Grandmother’s home. Familiar smells of typical Italian food continually lured Reda back home after skateboarding and watching countless shows at CBGB’s where bands like Agnostic Front and Murphy’s Law performed. Friends were always welcomed within the Reda household and still are – Thanksgiving dinner is a true cornucopia of familiar and new faces.
Reda’s skateboard photography career began in 1995, where he would take the subway everyday from Brooklyn to shoot friends skating around the streets of New York City. His reputation and network of friends grew and he began to shoot some the world’s best skateboarders. Freelance opportunities with such worldwide distributed publications as Transworld Skateboarding, Thrasher Magazine and Skateboarder began to occur. By 1996, he was a senior photographer for Transworld.
In 1999 Reda shifted gears and became staff photographer for Zoo York Skateboards where such luminary legends as professional skateboarder Harold Hunter, had his first start. Upon completing his tenure at Zoo York, he became the photo editor of Big Brother Magazine. Reda averages about 100 pages of editorial content a year and is still a frequent contributor to Thrasher, Transworld Skateboarding Magazines, The skateboard Mag and Skateboarder.
Reda's infectious humor and appealing personality earned him a weekly episodic video blog on the biggest skateboarding website www.theberrics.com. "Wednesdays with Reda” showcases his unique humor and quick wit as he travels the world with various professional skateboarders; drawing 650,000 views per month.
Of recent, Reda was asked to do voiceover work for Electronic Arts (EA) – the biggest video game developer in the world. Reda specifically worked on “Skate,” a skateboard game where he narrated its entirety. Version II is coming out shortly, where Reda once again will do the narrating, but this time around is featured as a character.
Giovanni Reda is one of the most sought after photographers in the history of skateboarding. His success is a reflection of dedication, work ethic and most of all, passion for skateboarding.
