Rest In Peace Adam Yauch (aka MCA and Nathaniel Hornblower)

Beastie Boys are rad. Here are some photos I took of them when they headlined the Big Day Out in 2005. It is a real shame that MCA passed away recently and for the first time a musician's death has really affected me. Sending out love to all the Beastie Fam.

11 Photos from 2011

Just before last year I had the flippant idea to photograph 2011 entirely on black and white film (I admit, I did have one escape clause: I could shoot color by using digital, but I very rarely shoot digital...) So now just over 13 months after the original thought, I shoot entirely Black and White for all of 2011 (230ish rolls to be precise!)

I thought I would show 11 of them from 2011. Not necessarily the best 11 but the 11 I chose.

The last EVER Big Day Out

Down here in 'li'l ol' NZ' we haven't been blessed with too many Music Festivals. The biggest and longest (I think) was the Big Day Out, this started in NZ in 1994 and carried on (except 1998) until 2012.

Citing a couple of reasons (mainly surrounding poor tickets sales and rising costs) the organizers have decided to pull the plug on next years festival and call it a day. The old adage of 'use it or lose it' has, unfortunately, come true. BUT we got one more outta them,… read more →

Flying Nun Records 30th Birthday; Nunvember

2011/11/01 - 2011/11/30
New Zealand (New Zealand)

Here in New Zealand we tend to do things differently. Our music is no different. 30 years ago, Roger Shephard started a little label to launch local Christchurch music, shortly after it became the champion of the emerging Dunedin sound. It quickly became a label with a unique sound and, much like most 'indie' labels around the world, developed a cult following.

To celebrate this fine achievement (being successful, independent and actually around in this fickle digital age)… read more →

Good As Gold X WeSC X Vice Halloween Party

2011/11/06 - 2011/11/07
Meow in Wellington, New Zealand (New Zealand)

Booze was drunk, karaoke was sung, booties were shaken and it didn't stop till the P.A got shut off.

Dead Musicians were the order of Halloween with plenty of Tupac, Amy Winehouse, sprinkles of Elvis and even a Yoda and Spiderman (and just after Spiderman left Spiderwoman turned up!)

Awesome.

Opening Night at Tim Chapman's 'The Outsiders' Exhibition

2011/10/06 - 2011/10/07
Good As Gold, Wellington, New Zealand (New Zealand)

Thursday night prolific artist and motorbike enthusiast, Tim Chapman, held his exhibition of New Works On Paper at Good As Gold.

It was one of those 'shoulda been there' nights. Great works, great beer followed by great mexican (which had nothing to do with the exhibit...)
Here are some shots I took.

CHOW DWN WIT GAG

2011/08/10 - 2011/08/11
Chow, Tory St, Wellington New Zealand (New Zealand)

Last Saturday (6th August) saw the biggest party in twn go dwn at Chow. Typically a Asian-inspired restaurant Chow showed an unsuspecting crowd (and bar staff) just how it gets down. With the assistance of WeSC Activist DJ Marek, WeSC Stockist Good As Gold, two-for-one cocktails and a Chow load of free drinks the night was destined to be a success.

Here to stay DJ Marek will take up a residency at Chow Tory St to entertain late night diners, early-to-town dancers or just… read more →

Biography

sean aickin

I don't take up all the arm rest on long flights, I don't talk loudly during movies, I don't get angry when there is a long line at the post office and all I want to do is buy a 50cent stamp. I don't like to kick up a fuss when my food takes too long at dinner, I don't drive a car (I don't even have a drivers license) I don't hang up when I'm on 'hold' for too long. BUT I do take photographs.
